I don’t know what I would do with 1.5 Billion (or the taxed remainder) but I can tell you what I would do with a sudden and large influx of disposable income.

1. Restore the cruiser inside and out with maybe a 1HD-FTE and HF151 swap (or keep the 1fz-fe and do the 151) and all the expo gear that would be reasonable. $50,000

2. Built the house I want with a much larger lot and a separate garage. Probably in midway, Utah. $550,000

3. Find a new daily driver...not sure what it would be but it might be a LS600hl depending on my commute -$80,000 I like discretion and comfort...

4. Buy a fun car...also unsure but it wouldn’t be new and it wouldn’t be excessively powerful. A 4c or Evora S or something. $60,000

5. Buy all the projects that I’ve ever wanted to do:

Restore the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with re-powered mercruiser tdi engines, and all the latest and greatest in waterproof plaid and canvas. $80,000 at least

1st gen rally RAV4. 3s-gte full cage long travel coilovers, ets. Don’t ask me why. $30,000

SW20 3G-GE BEAMS blacktop swap. $30,000

Restore an old wooden cruiser with inboards in the 35-40 foot range ($150,000 at least) must sleep 4 or more.

6. Family towing rig, probably something off the shelf like a GM duramax or something. Doesn’t matter too much $60,000

7. Buy property in all the places I’ve ever wanted (upwards of 2 million)

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Rhode Island, Maine, or other east coast town

8. Fund and run a company specializing in affordable family camp trailers that can handle a little rough country. ~$150 million invested (also I get a trailer outta the deal...bonus)

9. 35 foot sailboat $100,000

10. Set aside funds to pay for taxes, fees, maintenance and repair of my properties/things without having to use principle. 100 million

11. A few toys

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

a few snowmobiles ($30,000)

A freakin Terrawind! ($450,000)

EarthCruiser ($200,000)

Which puts me at $254 million roughly. Man, its hard to spend money after a while....and most of that I haven’t even “spent”

You can keep your 600 million or whatever, I “only” need about 300 or so.

Where exactly would you be daily driving to? You’d keep your grind with ~$300M in the bank?

depends on where I would have my factory/corporate offices for my trailer company...midway isn’t the ideal place to attract skilled workers.

On here, you’ll never have to explain why. We totally get it.

okay, so put me down down for another 10 million for the plane and to set aside interest for the storage and maintenance. Unless you can recommend something cooler for a family of 4.

A B200 King Air seats 13. A pressurized turbo Beechcraft 58P Baron that seats six can be had for under $500k

Haha...maybe it’s enough.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even move. I’d upgrade my house but I’m good where we are. I’d buy a lake house as an additional though.

I like where I live, but my wife and I both want to build the house we really want. And I want to live in Midway because its the kind of place that has real roads with stoplights and everything but you can still drive your snowmobile down the road in the winter. As for the lakehouse, my siblings and I have become the caretakers of the family cabin and that’s good enough for me.

Haha, I would love to have the problem where I run out of ways to spend money. I’m a man of fairly simple tastes, my largest expenditures would be a warehouse for toys and a personal chef. No more cooking and food shopping unless I really want to.

I thought I had fairly simple tastes until I started compiling this list. Apparently im pretty greedy.

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha, nah. If you end up with that much you might as well get creative. I’d probably stick aside 50 million for a charity or something too. Maybe another 50 million to pimp out the city I live in. Spruce up the parks and whatnot.

The key is to invest in this. Even at 6% return on your post tax lump sum payout you’re looking at something like $30 million a year without touching the principal. I’m pretty sure I could live quite comfortably on $30,000,000 a year before taxes.

thats what setting aside the 100m was for. Interest pays for my future liabilities.

01/13/2016 at 16:15

Kinja'd!!!0

At work we went with the theory of invest the whole after tax payout up front and just live off the return. You would have to save up for a few years to do some of the things on your list though. As an added bonus you would end up being a trillionaire if you were frugal and only spent a couple million a year.
